Senior R&D Scientist

What we are looking for
We are looking for a Senior R&D Scientist to join our Research & Development team at Wyatt Technology.
We seek passionate and inventive individual who can help us design and develop state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation for characterizing macromolecules and nanoparticles in solution.
The successful candidate will work with our team of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, physicists, and chemists.
You will be embedded within the larger R&D group at Wyatt and mentored by experienced instrument designers.
As a developer of an instrument or product, you will require a deep understanding of the science behind the measurements, and you'll also need hands-on expertise in electronics, data acquisition, optics, opto-mechanical assemblies, scripting/programming, fluid handling, and data analysis.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Perform research and development tasks in support of developing new products and sustaining existing products.
Design and evaluate optical systems including, but not limited to, lasers, optical fibers, lenses, beam splitters, apertures, and photodiodes.
Evaluate electrical, optical, thermal, and mechanical parts at component level and system level.
Interface with marketing, manufacturing, quality control, and service departments throughout the product lifecycle.
Create tools and procedures for assisting manufacturing and quality departments.
Conduct detailed engineering analysis on failures and provide test reports.
Provide root cause analysis and pursue better engineering solutions.
Prepare documentation associated with Document (Design) Change Orders.
Assist Customer Service in troubleshooting and resolving customer challenges.
Requirement and Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
Strong understanding of system level engineering for analytical instruments, including optical systems, materials, and opto-mechanics.
Knowledge of optics, chemistry lab techniques, electronics, programming, and mechanical drawings.
Familiar with machine shop work (band saw, drill press, end mill, etc.
).
Familiar with CAD software, Inventor, Solidworks etc.
Proficient with data analysis and plotting tools including one or more of: Excel, Mathematica, Matlab, Origin, etc.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively within and outside of team, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with management, peers, suppliers and customers.
