I am the third owner, with all receipts dating back to original purchase order at BMW of Santa Fe, NM.
I purchased the bike a year ago and have spent the last year going through the bike, front to back.

Recent work, about $3,000 in new parts – BMW OEM only purchased from A&S cycles.
- Fork rebuild with new fluids, front brake bleed.
- New Dunlop TrailMax Mission Tires front and rear – less than 500 miles
- Carbs Rebuilt with new rubbers, springs, intake boots, and new throttle cables
- Gearbox – splines lubed, new fluids, new clutch cable, new neutral switch
- Engine – new rear main seal, oil pump seal, new oil pressure switch.
Semi-synth Golden Spectra oil.
- Exhaust threads cleaned and anti-seize applied
- Valves Adjusted and Rocker Arm Bolts Torqued
- New Swingarm boot and Drive Shaft boot
- Replaced BMW seat with OEM
- Replaced low fender with BMW high fender
- New petcock strainers, fuel lines, and in-line fuel filters
- New diode board, new ignition control module
- New air filter and smog block-off kit
- Speedometer serviced by Foreign Speedo in San Diego, bike was showing 10mph over
- New Rear LED tail lights
- Added BMW handguards for wind protection and new hand grips
- Added BMW luggage racks and cross brace
- Progressive suspension rear shock
As you can see, the restoration has been a fun journey and a labor of love.
This is not a cheap, quick-flip but rather a carefully planned and documented restoration of an iconic machine that will outlive us.
I would prefer to sell the bike locally before listing it on Bring-A-Trailer.
A same 1988 BMW R100GS sold on BAT for $35k, albeit with lower mileage.
